Austin has many breweries inside the city limits. You can bike there, take a ride share there or take the metro. One thing you can’t do is have a road trip to get you there (Austin traffic is rough). The only sites you will see are those of a concrete jungle.
If you want to really experience the hill country you need to take a road trip to the outskirts of Austin. One place is Dripping Springs, 30 minutes west of Austin and with a population that has doubled in the last 6 years of around 4140 people it’s a town on the rise.
Offering beautiful scenic roads and lay back breweries. This town is ready for the summer road trippers.
Family Business is one of those breweries nestled deep in the hill country (partly owned by Jensen Ackles of the series Supernatural), offering scenic views all the way to the front door. They have a large wrap around patio and huge yard full of adult games to enjoy while relaxing on picnic tables.
They have a food truck on site offering delicious sandwiches or you can bring your own picnic. Plus just down the road is Hamilton Pool Preserve.
If you need to make your way back to Austin then not too far away is Jester King brewery. Just a short drive east it also offers a scenic trip but do pay attention to the signs because you will miss the entrance.
Tucked away down a dirt road. It’s situated next to an outdoor pizzeria.
Where you can order some stone oven cooked pies and eat under some shady trees. (Of course on a table)
They offer brews in large shareable bottles or on draft. With some very unique flavors to pair with any pizza.
With around a dozen wineries and breweries around you can enjoy a full week of brews and views in this small populated town. Just don’t try to cram it all in one day or weekend. Always enjoy the hill country responsibly.
