When we think of Christmas we imagine presents, decorations, Santa, trees, snowmen, lights, candy canes and many other things. For those that love to bake during the holiday, sugar cookies.

They are soft, warm and delicious. Perfect for coffee, tea and hot cocoa.

The best part is the frosting and toppings. They come in different colors and Christmas shapes.

If you have some broken candy canes you can make a unique sugar cookie frosting.

  • 4 small broken candy canes
  • 4 tbsp of milk ( almond or coconut milk will work but it does alter the taste a bit)
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • few drops of food coloring (if desired)

Start with breaking the candy cane pieces into smaller bits. The smaller the better.

Mix the candy canes with the milk and heat it up to melt the candy canes. Stir with a fork to make sure they are melted and add the powdered sugar.

Mix very well. Then fold in the vanilla.

If the mixture is too runny add more powdered sugar a tbsp at a time. If the mixture is too thick add milk a tsp at a time until the correct consistency is desired.

Decorate your cookies and let sit so the frosting can harden. Enjoy.
